Conference Tourney Preview Part. IV

Mt. West
San Diego St. won’t have to face a team that has beaten them this year until the conference finals where they will likely meet BYU. Air Force is an interesting case because they play Wyoming in the first round whom they beat by 1 and lost to by 5. If they can get past them, they will have to face a red hot BYU team which has also beaten them this year.

Tourney winner- SDSU
Bubble burst- Air Force

George Washington is clearly the class of the A-10 but without Pops they are extremely beatable as they showed against Charlotte. There is just no way they are winning 3 games against pretty good teams to get the automatic bid without Pops. The thing is the other 11 teams are all pretty equal and could win. Dayton is home and has a pretty favorable draw as well. They went 3-0 against St. Joe’s and St. Louis who will be Dayton’s first two opponents. They would then get an injured GW team or Temple which beat them by 2 at Dayton. Can Dayton win four games in four days? Probably not. GW is still the best team in the league, but I’ve got a bad feeling about them

Tourney winner- Dayton
At-large bid- GW

Kent St. enters their conference tournament as the 1 seed, but lost their last game at Akron. The tournament is in Cleveland which will be packed with Akron fans and the final figures to be another Akron-Kent St. showdown.

Tourney winner- Akron

Northwestern St. won the regular season title by 4 games over Sam Houston State and their only lost came at Sam Houston St. However, they have home court advantage throughout where their only lost was by 4 points to Iowa St. Sam Houston St. will keep it reasonably close in the final but they won’t win.

Tourney winner- Northwestern St.

Delaware St. is another team that won their regular season title by 4 games. They may draw NC A&T who is hosting the tournament for their first game where Delaware St. only won by 3. NC A&T has Howard who beat NC A&T at NC A&T as well in the first round. Anyway Delaware St. is the class of the league and will probably win 3 close games to get the automatic bid.

Tourney winner- Delaware St.
